William Balfour has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew.

Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia, entered his plea during a court hearing in Chicago on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

According to reports Balfour, 27, nodded to his family as he entered the Cook County Criminal Court.

He is charged with first degree murder and home invasion, following the triple killings of Darnell Donerson, Jason Hudson and seven-year-old Julian King last October.

Balfour is being held without bail and is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 27.

The bodies of Darnell and Jason were found in Donerson's South Side Chicago home in October, while Julian, 7, was found three days later in a family vehicle.

Patricia Arquette is calling it quits with hubby Thomas Jane after two years of marriage. The Medium star filed papers at the Los Angeles County Superior Court today, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

The couple, who wed in June 2006, have a 5-year-old daughter together named Harlow. This was the second marriage for both.

Arquette was previously married to Nicolas Cage, while Jane was briefly hitched to Rutger Hauer’s daughter Aysha.

Fantasia Barrino is a crowd pleaser for sure ... deciding the fate of her home at the 11th hour!

Charlotte-based attorney Larry Goldman, an attorney for a lending company, says the auction of a million-dollar home belonging to American Idol winner won't happen because an agreement has been reached, reports the Associated Press.

Barrino, who faced the loss of her $1.3 million home in a debtor's auction set last week, was apparently ignoring the looming legal threat, officials told the New York Post.

The AI winner, who starred as herself in a Lifetime movie detailing her rags-to-riches story, owes a Florida credit company $65,000, money she borrowed in 2006 to pay back taxes she owed the IRS.

The Post reports, the singer made a $10,000 payment in August 2007. But she never paid the rest, so the company won the right in court last month to auction off her house for the balance.
Mecklenburg County sheriff's deputies, who are responsible for enforcing civil court orders, have tried at least a dozen times to reach Barrino at the home and by phone, said Sgt. J.W. England, a supervisor of civil judgments.

Over the course of about a year, Barrino has never responded to court documents, and no lawyer ever appeared in court to represent her, said Larry Goldman, a Charlotte attorney representing the credit company, Broward Energy Management.

"We try very hard and give the defendant every opportunity to pay. I certainly don't want anyone to lose their house," Goldman told the paper. "But as far as I'm concerned, we have a judgment."

Barrino, 24, has made no payments and filed no documents since The Post reported a court-ordered lien on the property in Charlotte's upscale Piper Glen neighborhood last month.

Roman Polanski is on a mission to clear his name ... prosecutors are just as determined to see the case thru to the end.

Deputy District Attorney David Walgren argued in a motion on Tuesday, Jan. 6, that Polanski's request to change legal venues can't be heard in court without his presence. If he returned, Polanski could be arrested, reports the Associated Press.

His lawyers have said the matter can be heard in his absence.

A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Jan. 21 in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Walgren said the hearing should be canceled if Polanski doesn't plan to attend.

Polanski, who last month moved to have a decades-old charge of unlawful intercourse with a minor dismissed, filed a motion Monday to have the entire case removed from the Los Angeles Superior Court and handed to the California Judicial Council for review, reports E!Online.

Citing judicial bias and misconduct that was alleged in the recent documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, the 75-year-old filmmaker's legal camp states that the "entire case should be referred to the Judicial Council for further proceedings and a determination free from even the appearance of bias and taint."

The documentary charges that former L.A. Deputy District Attorney David Wells engaged in "repeated unethical and unlawful" communications with Lawrence J. Rittenband, the judge assigned to the case, who is now deceased.

According to E!, Polanski’s plan to appear in L.A. to wrap the case up in 1997 also fell through when L.A. Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler insisted the proceedings be televised.

"The court's public comments constituted a prejudgment of the merits of Mr. Polanski's request ... without having received full briefing, evidence or argument from the parties," the motion said.

The court issued a statement last year calling the allegation about Fidler a "complete fabrication, entirely without any basis in fact, and completely unsupported by the court record."

Polanski, fearing Judge Rittenband was going to renege on a deal that would keep him out of jail, fled the U.S. for France in 1978 before he was scheduled to be sentenced for having sex with a 13-year-old girl the previous year.

He has continued to direct -- winning an Oscar in 2002 for The Pianist -- but hasn't returned to the U.S. in 30 years.

Details surrounding the birth are not yet known, but a representative for the Hollywood couple insists mother and child are doing well.

The spokesperson tells People.com, "Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck gave birth to a healthy baby girl."

The pair is already parents to three-year-old Violet.

After the pregnancy was announced in August (08), Affleck made it known he wouldn't chose an unorthodox name for his second child, preferring traditional names over "trendy" Hollywood ones.
